The Game
The Murray State women's basketball team looks to keep their winning ways at home this season when it takes on Southern Illinois Friday at 6 p.m. at the CFSB Center in Murray, Kentucky.
Last Time Out
Murray State led for over 37 minutes of last Sunday's game with Bradley as it had little trouble with the Braves, winning 83-48.
Series At A Glance
Murray State has had its fair share of trouble with Southern Illinois over the years, as the Salukis lead the all-time series, 37-6. The Racers have not fared much better at home, where SIU leads as well, 17-4. More recently, the Racers have lost the last five meetings against the Salukis, last winning in December 2012.
Scouting The Salukis
After starting MVC play 3-0, Southern Illinois is currently 3-3 after dropping each of their last three contests. On Sunday, SIU fell to 6-9 overall with a 65-62 loss at UIC.
Ashley Jones and Shemera Williams currently lead the Salukis in scoring at 15.0 and 13.2 points per game, respectively. On the boards, Laniah Randle pulls down 6.3 rebounds per game to lead SIU on the glass, while Promise Taylor follows at 6.2.
Southern Illinois currently averages 72.3 points per game on 33.3-percent shooting with 37.8 rebounds per game. Meanwhile, the Saluki's opponents are averaging 73.9 points per game on 36.2-percent shooting with 40.0 rebounds per game.
A Win Would...
A win Friday would push Murray State's current win streak at home to five games and keep them undefeated at home in Valley play.
Double Dip
For the first time this season, Murray State had two players reach 20-points or more against Bradley. Katelyn Young led the Racers with 24 points while Macey Turley followed with 20.
Good Company
Murray State, along with Iowa State, is one of just two teams in the nation currently ranked in the top ten nationally for fewest fouls per game and free throw percentage. The Racers are currently second in fouls per game at just 12.0 and are sixth in free throw percentage.
Controlling The Game
For the ninth time this season, the Racers led for more than 35 minutes of the game against Bradley. The Racers led the Braves for 37 minutes and 26 seconds Sunday. Of the nine games that MSU has led for 35-plus minutes this season, they have never trailed in five of them.
Hammon Watch List
For the second time in as many seasons, Katelyn Young was named to the Becky Hammon Mid-Major Player of the Year Mid-Season Watch List. Young was one of two players from The Valley to be named to the 15-player list Wednesday.
