The Murray State Racers took on North Dakota State for the first time in the MVFC

The Murray State Racers dropped a 38-6 decision in their first meeting with the North Dakota State Bison at the FargoDome in Fargo, D.D.

The Racers (2-6) fell to 1-4 in the Missouri Valley Football Conference as they come home to Roy Stewart Stadium to host North Dakota, Saturday (Nov. 4) in a 1 p.m. kick on Salute to Service Day.

Trailing 28-0, the Racers watched freshman kicker, James London, boot the longest field goal of 2023 in the MVFC from 53 yards with 1:49 remaining in the first half. London's second field goal this season gave the Miami, Florida native the sixth-longest field goal in Murray State history.

Trailing 28-3 at the half time intermission, the Racers had trouble gaining a foothold against the Bison defense. MSU gained just 74 yards on 21 first half plays.

Matt Maldonado, is now 5-of-5 this season, after he made a 39-yard field goal in the third quarter to account for the day's scoring for the Racers.

Cody Goatley led the Racers' defense with seven total tackles, including five solo and one for a loss.

Game Notes

Today was the first meet meeting between the Racers and Bisons in the first season for Murray State in the MVFC.
NDSU plays at Murray State in 2024 on Oct. 26.
London's 53-yd FG is tied for sixth-longest in Murray State history and is the 00 such kick of 50 yards or more.
MSU's tip field goals continue to be, Aaron Baum of 58 yards (twice) & 55 yards in 2021. Stan Watts 58-yards in 1971 and Paul Hickert's 62-yard effort in 1986.
London's kick is is also the longest this season in the Missouri valley football conference.
The previous long field goal was Matthew Cook of Northern Iowa with a 50-yarder at Indiana State (10-07-23).
After two road games at Missouri State and NDSU, the Racers come home Saturday vs North Dakota in the first meeting between the two. The day will also be Murray State Athletics Salute to Service Day with many pre-game activities planned to honor military veterans and first responders in the community.
