Racers Set for MVC Individual Championships

Murray State women's tennis is set for the challenge of Missouri Valley Conference Individual Championships set for this weekend (Oct. 6-8) at Missouri State in Springfield, Mo.

The tournament will host singles and doubles flights as part of the format. In singles action, freshman Valeria Chaikovskaia will take part in the top-flight bracket as an unseeded player. Fellow freshman Varya Alexeyeva enters the second flight as the 3-seed while French nationals Sarah Bureau and Emma Honore will compete in the third and fourth flights. Annika Pschorr will play as the top seed in the fifth flight while reigning MVC Individual Champions of their flights, Natalie Slezakova and Paola Campigotto will be the top seed in the sixth and seventh flights.

In Doubles, Pschorr and Bureau are the #2 seed while Marit Kreugel and Slezakova are the three-seed and Honore and Campigotto will be the top-seeded doubles pairing.

"We are thrilled to compete this weekend, said Head Coach Jorge Caetano. "This is a great opportunity to see how our team stacks against the other MVC players and we believe we have good chances on every flight. We have been working very hard to prepare for this tournament and now we just want to go out there and show what we are capable of. It will be a tough three-day tournament but we are ready for the challenge."
