The Game
The Murray State women's basketball team begins its final two games of the season Thursday when it travels to Valparaiso, Indiana for a 6 p.m. clash at the Athletics-Recreation Center with Valparaiso. Two wins in their last two games would secure the sixth-seed for the Racers in next week's Hoops in the Heartland MVC Women's Basketball Championship in Moline, Illinois.
Last Time Out
The Racers had little answer for UNI Sunday, as the Panthers pushed past Murray State, 76-46. Katelyn Young led Murray State with 14 points, while Alexis Burpo had a team-high seven rebounds.
Series At A Glance
Thursday marks the Racers first-ever trip to the Athletics-Recreation Center in Valparaiso. Murray State won the first meeting between the two teams in Murray on New Year's Day, 67-48.
Scouting The Beacons
The Beacons are coming off of a 78-49 loss Saturday at Illinois State and currently 7-20 on the year and 5-13 in the Missouri Valley Conference.
Ali Saunders currently leads the scoring for Valpo with 11.5 points per game, while Olivia Brown and Leah Earnest follow Earnest at 10.4 and 10.2, respectively. Earnest also leads Valpo on the boards at 7.5 rebounds per game, while Illysse Pitts follows at 3.8
Valpo currently averages 59.6 points per game on 41.2-percent shooting with 29.7 rebounds per game. Meanwhile, the Beacons' opponents are averaging 71.3 points per game on 44.1-percent shooting with 34.3 rebounds per game.
A Win Would...
A win Thursday would take care of the first step of securing the sixth-seed at Hoops in the Heartland next week. Murray State would also need to defeat UIC Saturday to do so.
Oh So Close
Already the program's all-time assist leader, Macey Turley needs just two made 3-pointers to pass Mariah Robinson (263) and become the school's all-time leader in the category.
Free, It's In The Name
On Saturday against UNI, Macey Turley sank her 46th consecutive free throw to break her own previous record of 45. The redshirt senior had not missed a free throw this season since Dec 3 against Southern Indiana.
