Racers Split Doubleheader to Round Out Weekend

Murray State and Evansville split the Sunday doubleheader with the Purple Aces taking two of three in the series
Murray State baseball split their doubleheader with Evansville on Sunday with the Purple Aces winning game one 6-3 before MSU won game two 10-3.
Game One
Brennan McCullough and Cade Sammons led the way at the plate for MSU with each putting together a three-hit performance. Sammons picked up the lone RBI in the game as the Racers scored two more unearned runs to round out the scoring.
Logan Bland and Dustin Mercer each picked up a hit and scored a run at the top of the Murray State order.
Alex Elsing put together his second consecutive strong appearance, tossing 2.1 scoreless innings in relief while allowing just one hit and picking up a strikeout.
Game Two
The Racers were dominant for much of the series finale, once again picking up 10 hits to give them 30 for the series to go with a very impressive outing from Cade Vernon.
In probably his strongest appearance of the season, Vernon went 6.2 innings pitched while allowing just one run and putting together five strikeouts against the Purple Aces.
Charlie Corum and Drew Vogel each shined for MSU with each having a three-hit day in the contest. Each of them picked up a double and three RBIs as Corum reached twice more on a pair of walks.
Mercer smacked a double and scored two runs as Bland earned a knock with two walks and three runs scored. Carson Garner had a two hit, two RBI game while Sammons earned a single and an RBI in the final game of the weekend.
Murray State will be back in action at Johnny Reagan Field on Tuesday when they host a nonconference game against North Alabama at 5 p.m.
