Kayla Bell breaks Murray State’s 27-year-old 800m record to highlight day one at the Joe Walker Invite.
Murray State track and field closed day one at Joe Walker Invite with an event winner and three top-five finishes.
Â
Kayla Bell highlights the day by winning the 800m with a time of 2:05.32, breaking the school's 27-year-old record in the process. Her performance puts her first in the Missouri Valley Conference.
Â
"She learned some hard lessons during the run, but overall she did very well," said head coach Adam Kiesler.
Â
Teliyah James placed second in the 200m dash at 23.78 seconds. Her time is good for second in the MVC performance list.
Â
Rachel Hagans came in fourth in the long jump (6.01m) and Faith Bostick also placed fourth in the 200m dash (24.06 seconds).
Â
"Overall today was a good day for those who competed," said Kiesler.
Â
"This is the time of the season where we start backing off a little at practice so it's good to see the marks showing that."
Â
The Racers will compete on day two of the Joe Walker Invite, tomorrow.
