Murray State Tennis defeats Missouri State and UNI

Murray State picks up two wins against the Bears and Panthers.

In their road match against Missouri State, the Racers had a dominant performance. MSU began the match by winning the doubles point. Annika Pschorr/Sarah Bureau won their match (6-2) followed by a win from Marit Kreugel/Paola Campigotto defeating their opponents (6-1).

The Racers earned five more wins in singles play. Emma Honore gave MSU their second point, defeating her opponent (6-1), (6-4). Natalie Slezakova followed, winning her match (6-2), (6-3). Paola Campigotto clinched the match for the Racers, defeating her opponent (6-3), (6-2). Sarah Bureau also had a singles win in three sets (6-4), (4-6), (10-1). Annika Pschorr won her match in three sets as well (6-7), (6-2), (10-8).

The Racers hosted the University of Northern Iowa, Saturday.

MSU started the match with a sweep in doubles play. Emma Honore/Natalie Slezakova won (6-3) in the first flight followed by a win from Sarah Bureau/Annika Pschorr in the second flight (6-3). In the third flight, Paola Campigotto/Marit Kreugel defeated their opponents (6-2).

The Racers picked up four more wins in the first four flights of singles. In the first flight, Sarah Bureau won (6-4), (6-3). Emma Honore won her match in three sets (7-5), (3-6), (6-2). Annika Pschorr also earned a three-set win (5-7), (6-1), (7-6). Natalie Slezakova won her match in the fourth flight (7-5), (6-1).

"I was looking forward to seeing how we were going to respond after a rough Illinois road trip last week and the girls did a fantastic job this time. We talk daily about using every opportunity to get better and I feel like we accomplished that," said head coach Jorge Caetano.

"Unlike last week, we were able to step up our game in the big moments and play some of our best tennis under pressure which is exactly what our sport is about. Now we want to use the last two matches to continue to improve so we can be at our best at the MVC tournament."
