Meghan Fletcher placed 24th nationally to close the Racers’ NCAA campaign.
Murray State track and field ends its historical NCAA campaign as Meghan Fletcher placed 24th nationally in the high jump by clearing the 1.73m bar, Saturday.
Â
Fletcher placed eighth in the preliminary round with a 1.77m mark to qualify for the national championships. Before her NCAA appearance, Fletcher had a stellar season after becoming a three-time Missouri Valley Conference champion while setting the outdoor and indoor school records in the high jump.
Â
"We are extremely proud of all the Fletch accomplished this year," said head coach Adam Kiesler. "Getting to this meet was the cherry on top of everything she did as an individual but also for the team."
Â
Fellow national participant and now All-American, Kayla Bell, is also a three-time MVC Champion in the Racers' first year as a conference member.
Â
The Racers saw a total of ten event champions to place runner-up in both the MVC Outdoor and Indoor Championships, just behind the defending champions, Illinois State.Â
Â
"This season has been long but with our sport that is a good thing. Everything this team accomplished in year one in the MVC is amazing," said Kiesler.
Â
"We are looking forward to turning the page this summer and get some much-needed rest before getting back after it in the fall. I know the athletes will be very hungry to show that this year was something people can get used to in the future."
Â
The Racers had the most qualifiers in the last 25 years, with four in regionals and two in nationals.
