MSU vs Indiana State in First MVFC Game
There will only be one inaugural game for the Racers in the Missouri Valley Football Conference and it comes Saturday (Sept. 30) when the Indiana State Sycamores come to MSU's Roy Stewart Stadium on Family Weekend. The last time the Racers and Sycamores clashed, Matt Griffin led MSU and Lou West guided Indiana State. 2023 marks the 10th meeting in the series that started in Terre Haute in 1990. The Racers have won the last two in 2005 and 2006, but the Sycamores lead the all-time series 5-4.

Game Day Storylines
- MSU's MVFC inaugural game is at home (Sept. 30) against Indiana State on Murray State Family Weekend.
- The Racers' first MVFC road trip is to South Dakota in Vermillion (Oct. 7).
- The Racers were picked No. 11 in the MVFC Preseason Poll. South Dakota State and North Dakota State were No. 1 & No. 2.
- The Racers and Sycamores are each coming off an open week.
- The Racers are 10-13 since 2001 when coming off an open week, but have won their last two under Coach Dean Hood.
- MSU has won their last two home games at Stewart Stadium, Presbyterian in the season opener and the final home game of 2022 vs Robert Morris.
