Racers Successful in Spring Season Opener

Murray State women’s tennis defeated Austin Peay and Southeast Missouri to open 2024 campaign
Murray State women's tennis had a successful start to their spring season with a 2-0 sweep against Austin Peay and Southeast Missouri on Friday and Saturday. Freshmen Varya Alexeyeva and Valeria Chaikovskaia had a standout weekend, starting their dual match career with a 2-0 record.
On Saturday, Chaikovskaia defeated reigning OVC Player of the Year, Daniela Hlacikova of SEMO, in a straight set win. With this match, she clinched the win for Murray State over SEMO. Doubles partners Sarah Bureau and Annika Pschorr also earned two wins this past weekend, making them 13-4 overall in spring dual match competition as a pairing.
"Our doubles looked very good and set the tone for the rest of the matches both days," said Coach Jorge Caetano. "In singles we faced some kind of adversity across the board but I am very pleased with the way we handled those moments."
