Racers End 2024 on a High Note, Start MVC Play with a Win

Murray State women's basketball defeated Illinois State 91-80
Murray State women's basketball defeated Illinois State 91-80 to start Missouri Valley Conference play 1-0 in the last game of 2024 on Sunday at the CFSB Center in Murray, Kentucky. The Racers have now won the conference opener in each of their three seasons in the Missouri Valley Conference.
Four Racers reached double figures in scoring, led by Halli Poock's 25 points followed closely by Haven Ford with 22 points and Katelyn Young with 21 points. Ava Learn scored 12 points while grabbing seven rebounds while Ford paced the Racers in rebounding with 12.Â
After trailing by three at halftime, MSU would outscore the Redbirds by 14 in the second half, highlighted by Poock's 11 points in the fourth quarter and Young's clutch three pointer with two minutes left in the game to give the Racers a nine point lead. Ford would sink all five of her free throw attempts in the fourth quarter to solidify the Racers lead.
