The Racers Win Big at Bellarmine and Eastern Kentucky
Murray State women's tennis had a very successful weekend at their road matches against Bellarmine and Eastern Kentucky. The Racers came home with two match wins, and a milestone career win for senior Annika Pschorr.
Coming into the weekend, Pschorr had a record of 48-30 in singles play, and 50-25 in doubles. On Saturday at Bellarmine, she and doubles partner Sarah Bureau earned their doubles win in a 6-3 set. After a hard fought singles match, Pschorr came up short against Bellarmine's Yeva Kramarova, leaving Pschorr with 99 wins after Saturday night. In Sunday's match against Eastern Kentucky, Pschorr and Bureau fought hard and clinched the doubles point with their set win 6-2. With this win, Pschorr reached 100 career wins.
"100 wins is a great feat and I don't know what is more remarkable; the fact that she achieved this milestone in two and a half seasons or the uncountable number of matches that felt impossible to win, but somehow she was able to find a way and pull through," Coach Jorge Caetano said. "We all know that as long as she is on the court, no matter the conditions, the score, or the opponent, she always has a chance. This attitude that she has always shown has made a huge impact on everyone in our team."
The Racers went 6-0 in doubles play this weekend. With this sweep, the Racers have now won 12 out of 14 doubles matches for the season. Paola Campigotto and Marit Kreugel are undefeated in the spring season, both as a doubles pair (4-0) and in singles play (2-0). Emma Honore, Sarah Bureau, and Varvara Alexeyeva are all 4-1 in singles play as well.
After a hard fought weekend, the Racers came home with a 4-3 win against Bellarmine, and a 5-2 win against Eastern Kentucky.
"Playing on the road is always challenging so it feels great to come back home with two wins. We are competing at an extremely high level right now but I believe there is still a lot of room for improvement for this team," Coach Caetano said.
