Racers Pick Up Two Wins This Weekend Against WKU and MTSU
Murray State women's tennis continued to dominate this past weekend, securing two wins over Western Kentucky and Middle Tennessee. The Racers are now 6-1 on the season.
The Racers first faced Western Kentucky on Saturday in an evening match, where they swept the night 7-0. MSU was able to clinch the doubles point with a win from partners Paola Campigotto and Marit Kreugel. MSU then went into singles play, where they picked up all five singles wins. Four matches were won in straight sets, with Emma Honore clinching her win in a hard fought third set.Â
Murray State finished the weekend against Middle Tennessee. The Racers have not defeated MTSU since 1989, but were able to clinch the win this spring season 5-2. Graduate Marit Kreugel earned her 100th career win during doubles play with partner Paola Campigotto. She also won her singles match, marking her 43-22 in singles play and 58-27 in doubles play for her career.
"MTSU has always caused us trouble and it feels great to be on the winning side against them," Coach Jorge Caetano said. "Both teams competed extremely well and we were able to raise our level when it mattered the most and play some of our best tennis under pressure."
