Racers Rally In Ninth, But Fall Short To Redhawks

Carson Garner hit two home runs in Wednesday’s game against SEMO.
Junior Carson Garner put Murray State on the board first with a solo homer to left in the top of the second inning. With two outs in the top of the fifth, Garner launched his second home run of the day and fourth of the year to put the Racers up 5-1.
The Redhawks took the lead in the bottom of the sixth after hitting four home runs in the inning, two coming on back-to-back at-bats. Their fifth home run of the game came in the bottom of the eighth on a solo shot.
The Racers made a strong attempt at a ninth-inning rally to keep their winning streak alive. Graduate Taylor Howell reached base on a single before getting pinch ran for by sophomore Gunnar Bingham. Redshirt senior Logan Bland then stepped up and ripped an RBI triple down the line to make it a two-run game.
SEMO then occurred an error on a ball hit by redshirt junior Drew Vogel to score Bland bringing the Racers within one, but the Redhawks closed the door on a strikeout to end the game.
The Racers continue their road stint with a weekend series against the Louisiana-Monroe Warhawks February 23-25 before returning home for a midweek matchup with North Alabama on February 27 at Reagan Field.
