Pennington Reaches Milestone, Racers Take Game One

Graduate Jacob Pennington recorded his 200th strikeout as a Racer on Friday.
The Murray State baseball team took the first game of the weekend series, 2-0, against the Louisiana-Monroe Warhawks at Lou St. Amant Field in Monroe, Louisiana on Friday.
The Racers continued their early scoring habits after Dustin Mercer launched his first home run of the season on the first pitch he saw in the first inning. The Warhawks kept MSU off the board until the final frame, when Carson Garner blasted his fifth home run in five games to double the Racers' lead.
Jacob Pennington shined in his first outing on the mound, tossing seven scoreless innings and striking out nine batters while allowing four hits and earning the win.
After recording his second strikeout of the inning in the seventh, Pennington became the fifth pitcher in program history with at least 200 career strikeouts.
Nathan Holler picked up the save in his first bullpen appearance, striking out two and giving up just one hit in the ninth inning.
The Racers look to clinch the series over the Warhawks on Saturday, February 24 at 6 p.m.
