Racers Fall To Wildcats In Lexington

Taylor Howell scored three of Murray State’s six runs on a three-run homer in the third inning.
Murray State struck first after a scoreless first frame on an RBI double from Riley Hawthorne that rolled to the left field corner, scoring Carson Garner. Ethan Krizen followed up with an RBI base hit up the middle to bring in Hawthorne.
Garner extended the Racers' lead in the third on his own RBI base hit to score Drew Vogel. With runners on first and second, Taylor Howell doubled MSU's lead with a three-run blast to left field, making it a 6-0 ball game.
Kentucky answered back in the bottom of the third on a pair of RBI base hits and two sacrifice bunts to score four runs in the bottom of the third. The Wildcats maintained their momentum and took the lead with a five-spot in the fourth on a sacrifice fly, two more RBI singles and a two-run homer.
Kentucky tacked on one more insurance run in the fifth on a line drive sacrifice fly to take a four-run lead. Murray State held the Wildcats scoreless for the final four frames of the game but were unable to score any of their own after the third inning.
Seven different Racers recorded a base hit, five of which provided the scoring Tuesday night.
The Racers return home to Johnny Reagan Field for a three-game weekend series with the Little Rock Trojans March 15-17.
