Murray State Propels Over Western Kentucky In Midweek Run Rule

Dan Tauken blasted two home runs in the route over the Hilltoppers.

The Racers took Tuesday's midweek matchup in a seven-inning run rule over the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers, 15-2, at Reagan Field in Murray, Kentucky.

MSU scored at least one run in all six innings played in the route over WKU, extending its winning streak to seven games and posting a 12-0 record at home thus far this season.

Dan Tauken started the game off with a three-run home run that went just over the right field fence in the bottom of the first. In the top of the second, the Hilltoppers answered back with a two-run home run but were unable to get any more runs across for the rest of the game.

David Stokely blasted his first home run in a Racer uniform in the bottom of the second to make it a 4-2 game. Carson Garner blasted his 10th home run of the season, matching his season total from 2023, to start the third inning.

Tauken then stepped up and blasted his second home run of the day and seventh of the year for back-to-back homers. A pair of RBI singles from Logan Bland and Dustin Mercer made it an 8-2 game through three innings.

John Orberson extended the Racers' lead in the fourth with a two-run single up the middle then scored a run of his own on a wild pitch. Logan Bland then roped his second RBI base hit of the day to give Murray State its second-straight four-run inning in the game.

In the fifth, Brayden Buckner picked up an RBI with a bases-loaded walk on a full count and Orberson turned in his third RBI of the day on a sacrifice fly. Tauken capped off the scoring with an RBI double.

Kane Elmy earned his first win of the year after tossing four scoreless innings allowing four hits, one walk and added a strikeout. Tauken went 5-5 with five RBIs and three runs scored and Garner posted a 3-3 day with four runs, an RBI and two walks drawn. Mercer went 3-4 with an RBI and a run scored.

Murray State plays Belmont for its home conference-opening series March 28-30 at Reagan Field in Murray. Game times are 5 p.m. CT, 5 p.m. CT, and 1 p.m. CT.
