Racers Come Up Short to North Alabama

Racers fall in first outdoor match of the season
Murray State women's tennis fell 4-3 on Saturday against North Alabama in the Racers first outdoor match of the season.
The Lions got off to a hot start, earning the doubles point by defeating the Racers number one doubles pair Emma Honore/Natalie Slezakova, and the previously undefeated doubles pair Paola Campigotto/Marit Kreugel.
Heading into singles play, Sarah Bureau earned the first singles point, defeating her opponent Emma Ansorge in straight sets (6-1, 6-2). Freshman Valeria Chaikovskaia also won her match in straight sets (6-3, 7-6), and freshman Varya Alexeyeva bounced back after a tough first set (1-6, 6-1, 6-4). Alexeyeva is now 6-1 in her singles record for this season.
The Lions clinched the match win with Kalais Going defeating MSU's Emma Honore in a hard fought third set.Â
"First outdoor match is always tough but we have to go through it. We have to adapt our play to outdoor tennis, especially in doubles, and that only comes with more reps," said Coach Jorge Caetano. "We played much better in singles than in doubles and we did a good job giving ourselves a chance to win this match. It came down to a couple of key points that unfortunately did not go our way but props to UNA from playing a great match from start to finish."
