Racers Face Southern Indiana In Pair Of Midweek Matchups

Murray State is set to take on the Screaming Eagles in a two-game home-away midweek series.

Murray State looks ahead to a two-game midweek matchup with the Southern Indiana Screaming Eagles at home on Tuesday, April 2 and on the road at USI on Wednesday, April 3.
The Racers have won seven-straight games against USI since the 2000 season, most recently sweeping the Screaming Eagles in a three-game series in Murray during the 2023 campaign. Wednesday's game will be the first time since 1995 the Racers will play the Eagles in Evansville.
Murray State is just 1-1 in two games played at the USI Baseball Field yet boast an 11-2-1 record at Reagan Field when hosting Southern Indiana.

Scouting Report
The Screaming Eagles enter the matchup with a 12-15 record under head coach Tracy Archuleta, who is in his 18th season leading the USI baseball program. Archuleta is in his 23rd season in a head coaching role with his first five years spent at the Division II level at Wisconsin-Parkside.
Archuleta has amassed a record of 556-366 during his tenure with the Screaming Eagles and a career record of 704-490.
Southern Indiana's offense is led by Caleb Niehaus and Terrick Thompson-Allen, who are the team's leaders in base hits and are among USI's top run producers. Both players are batting over .300 playing in all 27 games thus far this season.
Tucker Ebest leads the team with 20 RBIs and Jack Ellis owns a team-high six home runs in just 13 games played this season. Ellis also has recorded an impressive .462 batting average through 52 at-bats, as well as an .865 slugging percentage.
USI's pitching staff has been highlighted most recently by Will Kiesel and Tyler Hutson. Hutson has recorded the second-most strikeouts with 28 through 16 2/3 innings despite holding an 0-2 record through 13 appearances. Kiesel has made the most appearances for the Eagles with 14, totaling a 3.21 ERA through 14 innings and having fanned 13 batters.
Gavin Morris is tied with Gavin Seebold for the most wins this year with three, yet Morris leads the team with 36 strikeouts and holds a 7.09 ERA through 33 innings of work.

 Carson Garner hit his 11th home run of the season during Thursday's series opener at home against Belmont, surpassing his 2023 season total of 10. After hitting 10 home runs last season through 57 games played, his new season best was recorded in 30 less games with 11 through 27 games.
Going into their midweek games with Southern Indiana, the Racers rank top 50 nationally in batting average, hits, home runs, slugging percentage, win-loss percentage and walks allowed per nine innings.
