Racers Outlast Skyhawks In Extra-Innings Battle

Carson Garner hit his 15th home run of the season to move him up the all-time top 10 list.
Murray State took the first matchup of the two-game midweek series with the UT Martin Skyhawks on Tuesday, 2-1, in 10 innings at Skyhawk Baseball Field in Martin, Tennessee.
Both teams were scoreless through the first two innings of the game before the Skyhawks cracked the scoreboard first with an RBI base hit in the third inning.
The Racers were held scoreless for the first seven innings until Carson Garner leveled it at 1-1 on a one-out solo homer in the eighth. After the third inning, Murray State held UT Martin scoreless for the final seven frames.
With Garner's home run, he is now tied for the ninth-most single-season home runs in program history.
With the bases loaded and two outs in the top of the 10th, Riley Hawthorne drove in the go-ahead run with a walk drawn on a 3-1 count.
Ryan Fender tossed four innings in his start on the mound, allowing just one run on three hits, two walks and recorded a strikeout. Reed Braundmeier was efficient in his sixth appearance of the season with three scoreless innings, giving up just two hits with a strikeout.
Allen Roulette earned his fourth win of the season after tossing 2 2/3 scoreless relief innings, allowing just one hit and one walk while fanning four batters. Thomas Mcnabb earned his second save of the year after getting a strikeout on the last batter of the game to secure the road victory for the Racers.
Hawthorne extended his reached-base streak to 20 games, and Garner extended his hitting streak to four games along with his reached-base streak now up to six games. Dan Tauken also brought his reached-base streak up to 10 games.
The Racers close out the midweek series with UT Martin at 3 p.m. CT on Wednesday, May 1 at Reagan Field in Murray, Kentucky.
