Melvin Advances To Quarterfinals At NCAA East Regionals

The sophomore bested her previous best and set a new school record in the first round of the 400-meter hurdles on Thursday.
Chelby Melvin, Faith Bostick and Kayla Bell competed in the opening rounds at the NCAA East Regional Preliminary Rounds on Thursday at the University of Kentucky Outdoor Track and Field Complex in Lexington, Kentucky.
Melvin advanced to the quarterfinal round in the 400-meter hurdles after finishing 12th with a time of 57.12. Her time set a new personal best and school record, which she has done for the fourth time this outdoor season. The sophomore finished with the second-fastest time in her heat.
Bostick and Bell each ended the outdoor season with NCAA East Regional appearances; Bostick in the 100-meter and Bell in the 800-meter.
DiamonAsia Taylor and Meghan Fletcher make their 2024 East Regional debuts in the high jump on Saturday, May 25 at 1 p.m. CT in the second flight of the event. This is Fletcher's second-straight regional appearance and Taylor's first career NCAA regional.
Melvin competes in the first heat of the quarterfinal round in the 400-meter hurdles on Saturday 6:30 p.m. CT. Melvin and Bell, along with Simone Joseph and Amirr Evans, compete in the 4x400-meter relay in the first heat of the event on Saturday at 7:45 p.m. CT.
