Game Day Story Lines

2024-25 is the 100th season of collegiate basketball at Murray State & third in the Missouri Valley Conference.
It's a rivalry week for the Racers as they meet not only two historical rivals in road game at Southern Illinois and a home game against Belmont, as now all of them are competing together in the MVC.
The Racers have lost a pair of games from last week when they fell in double overtime 97-93 in Chicago against UIC and then ran into first place Bradley in a game the Braves won soundly 74-61.
The series with the Salukis was for many years, the Racers' top non-conference game.
Now in The Valley, the Salukis have gotten the best of the Racers in their first four meetings in the MVC and have won five in a row over MSU since the Racers' last win in 2019 in Carbondale.
The Racers enter the SIU game with a few players reaching for career milestones.
JaCobi Wood recently went past 1500 career points between the Racers and Belmont, enters the has 982 points in 83 career games in Murray.
Kylen Milton has 1494 points entering the SIU game as he goes for 1500 career points between his time at WKU, Pine Bluff and Murray State.
Alden Applewhite, who led the Racers last week with 32 points against UIC and Bradley has 492 career points in 73 career games with Mississippi State, Portland and Murray State.
The game Wednesday in Carbondale also offers the side story of the return of student-athlete AJ Ferguson and former assistant coach Brendan Mullins to the Bantera Center.
Ferguson played two seasons for SIU (2022-24) and Mullins assisted his head coach and brother Bryan at SIU from 2019-24.
