Racers Fall at SMU - Jackson Homecoming Nets 26

MSU met the Mustangs for the second time and first in Dallas
Javon Jackson returned to his home state of Texas Tuesday with a team-high 26 points, but the late comeback by the Murray State Racers fell short in a 102-91 loss to the SMU Mustangs at Moody Coliseum in Dallas.
The Racers (2-1) come home Saturday to host Nicholls State in a 4:30 p.m. tip at the CFSB Center. The game is the middle game of an MSU tripleheader as MSU Football hosts North Dakota at 11 a.m. and the MSU women's basketball team hosts Saint Louis at 7 p.m.
Jackson was playing in front of family and friends from his hometown of Houston and went 8-of-14 from the field, including 2-of-3 from the 3-point line and he made all eight of his free throws. MSU also got 14 points from JJ Traynor, 11 from Roman Domon and 10 from Fred King.
Trailing 49-42 at halftime, the Racers fell behind by 18 points with 16:11 remaining, but clawed back several times. MSU cut the lead to six points five times, with the last time with 2:20m left.

- SMU is part of 17 teams from Texas the Racers have met since the first against North Texas in 1943 under MSU Coach Carlisle Cutchin.
- MSU is now is 32-18 all-time against teams from the Lone Star state.
- Mason Miller and Javon Jackson have each made a 3-pointer in the first three games of the season.

- Today's game marked the first time MSU has given up 100 points or more in a regulation game since 2004 when the Racers lost at UAB in 2004.
- MSU lost the rebound stat 42-31 and 17-8 on the offensive glass.
- Jackson had several family and friends from Houston attend the game at SMU.
- Jackson played his prep basketball at C.E. King High School where he was a Texas 6A All-State selection in 2020.
- Through three games, Jackson is second in the Missouri Valley Conference in scoring at 19.3 per game, behind Jaquan Johnson of Bradley at 23.0
