The Racers shot nearly 60 percent in winning their second home game at the CFSB Center
The Murray State Racers won for a third time in four games to start the 2025-26 season Saturday when they blitzed the Nicholls Colonels 99–79 at the CFSB Center in Murray, Kentucky.
The Racers (3-1) host the Little Rock Trojans Tuesday in a 7 p.m. tip at The Bank, before playing Thanksgiving week at the Cayman Islands Classic.
Fred King scored a career-high 24 points, while Javon Jackson scored 23 to help the Racers to a rare 50/40/80 game, which occurs when the Racers make 50 percent from the field, 40 percent from the 3-point line and 80 percent from the free throw line. King became the first Racer in 15 years to hit 8-of-8 from the field and the first Racer to score 20 points, grab 10 rebounds and have five blocked shots since 2012.
The Racers broke open the first half with a 12–0 run sparked by Jackson, King, and Layne Taylor, who made his first Racer start and scored 14 points.
After MSU had a 48–39 lead at the halftime intermission, they held off the Colonels after they had cut the MSU lead to three points in the early second half with a 19-8 run. The Racer outburst was punctuated by their 11th 3-pointer by Roman Domon for a 20-point lead with 6:11 left.
Game Notes
- Javon Jackson's 4-point play with 14:33 left in the first half came as he made a 3-pointer and was fouled and made the free throw, it was MSU's first since Kylen Milton at UIC on Jan. 5, 2025.
- Fred King's performance of 8-of-8 from the field, 8-of-9 from the free throw line with 10 rebounds and five blocked shots was impressive.
- The last time a Racer had 20 points, 10 rebounds and five blocked shots was Ed Daniel who scored 20 points, grabbed 18 rebounds and blocked five shots against Lipscomb on Nov. 26, 2012.
- King is the first Racer to score 20 points with 10 or more rebounds since Nick Ellington (22/12) at home against Midway in 2023.
- King is the first Racer to go 8-of-8 from the field since Jeffery McClain did it against Eastern Illinois on Jan. 11, 2010.
- Since 2012, MSU has only had 14 games that qualified for the 50/40/80 designation and the first since last season when the Racers did it at Middle Tennessee on Nov. 16, 2024.
- MSU beat the Blue Raiders 88-67 and shot 61 percent from the field, 53 percent from the 3-point line and 87 percent from the free throw line.
