Jackson’s Late Bucket Lifts Racers Past GWU in Cayman Final

The Racers got a driving layup from Javon Jackson to score a win over George Washington
Javon Jackson's length of the court drive and score with 1.2 seconds left was the deciding play in the Murray State Racers' 96-95 victory over the George Washington Revolutionaries Tuesday night in their final game of the 2025 Cayman Islands Classic.
The Racers moved to 5-3 on their fifth game this season of scoring 90 points and their fourth second half of 50 points.
Jackson's amazing game winner was just part of his 24 points on 10-of-20 from the field, while Roman Domon added 15 points, with 10 each coming from Fred King and Mathis Courbon.
Leading 45-43 after a first half that saw the Racers shoot 51 percent and GWU 53 percent, the Racers pushed to their largest lead of the day at seven points (86-79) with 7:02 remaining. The Racers got hot from the 3-point line and hit six of seven threes with a pair each coming from Brayden Shorter and Courbon and one each from Dylan Anderson and Domon.
Jackson's dash was set up when GWU's Trey Autry put the Revolutionaries in front with six seconds remaining at 95-94.

- Today's game for the Racers against GWU was their first in 101 seasons of collegiate basketball.
- The win for the Racers over is the best non-conference win so far in the Missouri Valley Conference according to kenPom.com as the Revolutionaries were No. 60.
- The Racers moved up three spots with the win in the KenPom rankings to No. 117.
- The game was close all the way evident of its 17 lead changes and each team had a largest lead of seven points.
- MSU's 51-point second half is the fourth for the Racers this season and all have come in the second half.
- MSU's French Connection of freshmen Mathis Courbon and Roman Domon combined for 25 points on 8-of-14FG, 3-of-6 3PT, 9R, 4A.
- Romon Domon played a career-high in minutes played (31:35), points (15) and rebounds (8).
- Fred King was one rebound from back-to-back double-doubles.
- The Racers lead the MVC with 85 made 3-pointers and are second in percentage (.351) behind UNI's .372.
- The Racers won the rebound stat vs GWU 40-30 and had 16 offensive rebounds.
- MSU's 16 offensive rebounds is their second-best of the season, behind only the 19 they had against Mississippi Valley.
- The Racers certainly faced some great competition in the Caymans, as they lost 90-87 Sunday to Middle Tennessee and 72-60 Monday to McNeese State.
- MSU is back at home in the coming week with a Tuesday game at the CFSB Center against Morehead State at 7 p.m.
- MSU hosts Bellarmine on Saturday (Dec. 6) at 2 p.m. when the 1999-00 Murray State team is honored and the No. 31 jersey number of MSU Hall of Famer Isaac Spencer will be retired.
