Racers Shoot two Matches in Columbus

Racers put up 4693 on Saturday and 4703 on Sunday.
The Murray State Racers shot two matches over the weekend at Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio.
On Saturday, Murray State shot a match that included Akron, UTEP, and Ohio State. The Racers finished second, putting up an aggregate score of 4693, behind a 4701 from Akron and besting a 4691 from UTEP and a 4680 from Ohio State. Murray State put up scores of 2328 in smallbore and 2365 in air rifle, with three Racers finishing in the top 10 individually.
Freshman Lea Soulé (Osceola,TX/Homeschooled) was the top finisher for the Navy & Gold, placing third with an aggregate of 1179. The Texas native placed third in smallbore with a 585 and fifth in air rifle with a 594. Another freshman, Abby Ballard, placed fifth individually with a 1174 aggregate. The Mississippian placed 12th in smallbore with a 579 before scoring a career high 595 in air rifle to place third. Caroline Martin rounded out the top ten for the Racers, placing sixth with a 1173. Her 581 in smallbore was good for seventh, and her 592 in air rifle was ninth best on the day.
The Racers competed with UTEP and West Virginia in Sunday's match. West Virginia came out on top with a 4723, UTEP placed second with a 4717, and Murray State came in third with a 4703 and scores of 2329 in smallbore and 2374 in air rifle—four Racers placed inside the top ten.
Junior Caroline Martin had a career day, placing third individually with a career high 1185 aggregate. The Glen Rose, Texas native started the day tying her career high of 588 in smallbore to place fourth before placing fifth in air rifle with a career-high 597. Mallory Johnson put up an aggregate of 1178 to place seventh individually. The sophomore placed sixth in smallbore with a 586 and ninth in air rifle with a 592. Abby Ballard had another good day for the Racers, placing ninth individually with a 1172. After firing a 577 in smallbore, she tied her career high of 595 in air rifle to place sixth. Lea Soulé rounded out the top ten with a 1172 and scores of 584 in smallbore and 588 in air rifle.
