Road Win Begins MVC Season for Murray State

Murray State picked up a 90-80 win at Evansville on Monday night
EVANSVILLE, Ind. — Halli Poock scored 29 points and Sharnecce Currie-Jelks added a double-double as Murray State opened Missouri Valley Conference play with a 90-80 victory over Evansville on Monday night.
The Racers (10-2, 1-0 MVC) relied on a dominant third quarter and a parade to the free-throw line to withstand a high-scoring effort from the Purple Aces. Murray State finished 36-of-43 (83.7%) from the charity stripe, with Poock converting 14 of 16 attempts. Haven Ford also proved perfect from the line, going 11-for-11 to finish with 19 points.
After a halftime tie at 39-39, Murray State broke the game open in the third period, outscoring Evansville 28-11. Currie-Jelks was a force inside, recording 19 points and a game-high 14 rebounds while shooting 8-of-12 from the floor. Keslyn Secrist also reached double figures for the Racers with 10 points.
Evansville (2-11, 0-2 MVC) was led by Camryn Runner, who finished with 20 points and nine assists.
