Murray State women's basketball defeated Illinois State 101-93 in double overtime
Halli Poock scored a game-high 34 points and Sharnecce Currie-Jelks grabbed 22 rebounds and scored 21 points to lead Murray State to a 101-93 double-overtime victory over Illinois State on Friday night at the CFSB Center. The Racers (11-2, 2-0 MVC) remained perfect in conference play by outlasting the Redbirds in a marathon contest that featured 10 ties and eight lead changes.
After regulation ended in a 77-77 deadlock and the first overtime finished tied at 86, Murray State took control in the second extra period, outscoring Illinois State 15-7 to secure the win. Poock's performance was bolstered by a 12-of-14 effort from the free-throw line. Haven Ford provided a major lift with 27 points, seven rebounds, and five assists. Briley Pena added 10 points for the Racers, who shot 45.6% from the field as a team.
Doneelah Washington paced Illinois State (7-7, 1-2 MVC) with 24 points and four steals before fouling out late in the second overtime. Trista Fayta scored 18 points, and Addison Martin recorded 13 points and 10 assists. Murray State outscored Illinois State in the paint 44-36 and held a 17-10 advantage in fast-break points.
