Sharnecce Currie-Jelks has won MVC Newcomer of the Week for the second straight week
For the second consecutive week, Murray State forward Sharnecce Currie-Jelks has been named the Missouri Valley Conference Newcomer of the Week, following a pair of dominant performances that fueled two road victories for the Racers.
Currie-Jelks started her week with a commanding double-double against Morehead State on December 3. She tallied 20 points and pulled down a game-high 14 rebounds in the 85-78 win. She shot 8-of-14 from the field and a perfect 3-of-3 from the free-throw line, while also adding two steals and a block.
Against Austin Peay. In a resounding 74-56 victory, Currie-Jelks exploded for 29 points and grabbed another 12 rebounds to secure her second double-double of the week and a national best seventh of the season.
Across the two contests, Currie-Jelks averaged 24.5 points and 13 rebounds, shooting a 60 percent (17-of-28) from the floor as the Racers improved to 7-2 on the year.
