Heartbreak in Peoria – Gritty Racers fall in overtime at Bradley

The Racers played their fourth overtime game in a single season for the just the second time since the 1983-84 season
Murray State Racers suffered their fourth overtime loss of the season in heartbreaking fashion 85-83 to the Bradley Braves at Carver Arena, on Saturday in Peoria, Illinois
The Racers (14-15) are 8-10 in the Missouri Valley Conference and coming back at home for Senior Day at the CFSB Center when they host Indiana State Tuesday in Murray.
Terence Harcum scored 22 points to lead five Racers in double-figure scoring, while KyeRon Lindsay came off the bench to score 17 points. AJ Ferguson added 15 points, with 12 points coming from Kylen Milton and 10 points from JaCobi Wood.
Leading by 16 points with 13:48 remaining, the Racers fought to the end of regulation with a chance to win it on the final play. Wood's 3-point attempt was no good and the game headed to extra time tied 75-75.
In overtime, the Racers took the lead twice of two points on a free throw by Nick Ellington at 3:37 and a driving layup by Milton at 2:54. With under 10 seconds left, MSU was down by two when Lindsay scored to make it 83-83. Bradley's Darius Hannah scored at the buzzer on a drive to the basket for the 85-83 win.
In the first half, the Racers got off to a fantastic start of 14-0, their best of the season, by hitting six of their first nine shots in the first 5:08.
As the top MVC team in getting to the free throw line (No. 39 in NCAA D-I), the Racers went to work from the line and made 17-of-19 in the first half, with Terence Harcum, Wood and AJ Ferguson combining to hit 11 in a row.
MSU trailed on the scoreboard for the first time at 7:08 when Bradley hit three-straight 3-pointers to make it 20-18. The Racers went into the halftime intermission in front 39-36 when Harcum was fouled on a 3-point attempt and made all three free throws.

Game Notes
- Harcum's 22 points is the highest points total for a Racer in series history against Bradley as be bested Claude Virden's 18 points for the Racers in 1969.
- Wood joins Cedric Gumm as the only Racers to dish out 10 assists in a game against the Braves.
- Gumm did it against Bradley in an NIT game in Peoria in 1994.
- Wood came out of the game with a free throw streak of 15 makes in a row, the longest of the season for MSU.
- The Racers have put together two outstanding games from the free throw line in going 23-of-25 at Southern Illinois for 92 percent and tonight at Bradley MSU hit 26-of-32 for 81 percent.
- The games combined makes a percentage of .859 for the Racers on 49-of-57.
- For just the second time in records that date back to the 1982-84 season, the Racers have played four overtime games in a single season.
- The Racers' tough luck continued in Peoria, as it did in losses at Western Kentucky and UIC and a neutral site game at the Diamond Head Classic to Charlotte.
- MSU's two double overtime games against UIC and Charlotte marks the first time in this time period of playing two in a single season.
- MSU also played four overtime games in the 2006-07 season with two wins at Tennessee State and at home against Jacksonville State and losses at Eastern Kentucky and a win at TSU as both of their regular season games went to extra time.
- MSU is now 10-3 this season when having the halftime lead.
- The other two losses in this instance were road games at Evansville and UIC.
- KyeRon Lindsay turned in his best game since November when he scored 27 points.
- Today at Bradley, he played 26 minutes when Nick Ellington got into foul trouble and ended up scoring 17 points on 6-of-9 from the field, 5-of-7 from the free throw line with eight rebounds and two blocked shots.
