Resurgent Racers Dominate Second Half in Win Over Valpo

Murray State women's basketball won 77-57, highlighted by a 43 point second half
Led by Briley Pena's 17 point effort, Murray State women's basketball defeated Valparaiso 77-57 on Sunday afternoon in Valparaiso, Indiana. After trailing by three at halftime, the Racers outscored the Beacons 43-20 in the second half.Â
Four Racers reached double figures in scoring as Pena was joined by Halli Poock with 15, Katelyn Young with 13, and freshman Braxcynn Baker with 10. Haven Ford was a key playmaker for MSU, leading the team with seven assists to go with nine points. Pena, Poock, and Baker combined for 11 three pointers made, led by Pena who knocked down five three point attempts.
The Racers shined defensively, forcing 28 Valpo turnovers and grabbing 13 steals. Ford and Ava Learn led the team with three steals apiece while seniors Young and Trinity White each had a pair.
Murray State sank 12 three pointers as a team and held the Beacons to just two makes from behind the three point line.Â
The Racers are now 9-3 in the Missouri Valley Conference this season and are in third place alongside Drake.
