Murray State defeated South Alabama 5-2 and fell to Ole Miss 1-0.
The Murray State Racers (5-9) split a pair of games on the second day of the Ole Miss Classic, defeating the South Alabama Jaguars (11-8) 5-2 and falling to Ole Miss (16-3) 1-0.
Following a high-scoring affair with the Jaguars on Friday, Saturday morning's matchup with South Alabama started out quietly, with the only run of the first three innings coming via an Ava Ozment RBI double in the first inning.Â
In the fourth inning, Erin Lackey scored on a wild pitch to put the Racers ahead 2-0 before Katy Huels hit a two-RBI single to left field. Â
Trailing 4-0 in the bottom of the fourth, Sidney Lee put the Jaguars on the board with a solo shot to center field. After a scoreless fifth and sixth inning, Hannah Sutton put the Racers ahead 5-1 with an RBI double to right field. The Jaguars could only put up one run in the final inning, giving the Racers a 5-2 win. Â
Karlye Graber went the distance in the circle and got the win, facing 31 batters and allowing just two earned runs, and striking out three. Ashleia Coble was the losing pitcher, allowing four earned runs in three and two-thirds innings.Â
Katy Huels led the Navy & Gold with two RBI while Ava Ozment and Hannah Sutton added RBI as well. Huels, Parker Holcombe, Kenley Minor, Ozment, Ailey Schyck, Sutton, and Summer Ray all had hits. Â
The afternoon matchup between the Racers and Rebels was a pitcher's duel with both starters going the distance.Â
Bre Haislip carried a no-hitter into the fifth inning before Taylor Strain broke it up with a single through the left side. Ashton Landsell broke the tie in the following inning via a sacrifice fly by Lexie Brady.Â
Parker Holcombe walked to open the seventh inning before advancing to second on a wild pitch. She then advanced to third on a groundout by Ava Ozment but Erin Lackey grounded out on the next at-bat, ending the game.
Aliyah Binford pitched a complete game no-hitter, striking out eight and walking three. Bre Haislip was saddled with the loss despite giving up just one run and three hits in six innings. Â
The Racers will wrap up their Ole Miss Classic slate on Sunday with a 10:00 a.m. CT game against Nicholls. Â
