Racers Come Up Short in Series Finale Against Western Illinois

Murray State Falls to the Leathernecks Sunday.
The Murray State Baseball team dropped their final match-up against Western Illinois 3-1 on Sunday.

Dustin Mercer went 2-3 with a walk to extend his on base streak to eleven games. The senior from Weddington, N.C., has reached base in every game of 2025.

Jonathan Hogart notched his third home run of the campaign when in the bottom of the sixth inning he hit a solo shot to tie the game 1-1.
Â
Western Illinois scored the game winning run in the seventh inning and added insurance in the ninth, taking a 3-1 lead they did not relinquish.

Murray State will remain at Johnny Reagan Field this week, hosting two midweek games against Lindenwood on Tuesday (Mar 11) and Wednesday (Mar 12). Both games will be broadcast on ESPN+. First pitch for both games is scheduled for 3PM.
