The Racers are facing the Indiana State Sycamores this weekend in Terre Haute

Nic Schutte is on a roll and a confident pitcher was a very pleasant Friday night sight at Bob Warn Field in Terre Haute, Indiana.

The Murray State Racers posted a 9-3 victory over the Indiana State Sycamores on the strength of Schutte's six innings, as the righthander surrendered only two runs run on five hits to push the Racers win streak to seven. Schutte struck out seven and walked two.

MSU (29-9) moved to 11-5 in the Missouri Valley Conference, ever close to posting their fifth-straight 30-win season for the first time in program history.

The Racers got on the board first on a base hit by Dom Decker in the 4^th that scored Garner for a 1-0 lead. Three add-on runs for the Racers came in the 6^th after Will Vierling and Luke Mistone singles and Decker walked to load the bases. A Dan Tauken single made it a 3-0 game and the Racers scored another run when Connor Cunningham grounded into a double play.

A healthy dose of add-on runs are part of many games and the Racers scored two in the 8^th and three in the 9^th to take a 9-3 lead.

Dylan Zentko and Graham Kelham combined to get the last nine outs. Kelham struck out all four hitters he faces to get his first save of the season.

Game two is set for a 1 p.m. Central Time first pitch Saturday in Terre Haute.

The Races are winners of 14 of their last 15 games since April 1.
MSU's winning streak is now seven, the school record is 22 set during the 1975 season.
Nic Schutte's pitching line was: 6IP, 5H, 2R, 1ER, 2BB, 7K, 1HP, 103 pitches/67 strikes.
In back-to-back wins against Valparaiso and Indiana State, Schutte has pitched 13 innings on 11 hits, four runs, four walks, 15 strikeouts.
Schutte lowered his ERA today to 3.21, third in the MVC, behind only Alec Nigut of Southern Illinois (2.93) and Belmont's Joe Ruzicka (3.36).
With a pair of RBIs today, Dan Tauken has 55 in 2025, tops in the MVC.
With a free pass in his first at-bat, Carson Garner has 45 walks in 38 games in 2025 and leads the MVC.
He has six walks in the last four games.
Garner is taking aim at the MSU single season walks record that was set in 1973 by Jack Perconte at 58.
Garner could become the fifth Racer to get to 50 walks in a season and be the first since Grant Wood who had 50 in 2018.
After a game at SEMO (April 29), The Racers return home to Johnny Reagan Field (May 2-4) to host Southern Illinois on MSU Baseball Alumni Weekend.
Festivities include honoring new MSU Hall of Famer, Daniel Calhoun, the 1975 NCAA Team and Johnny Reagan Day.
