The Racers travel to Carbondale in search of post-season success
The Murray State Track & Field team has reached the end of the 2025 outdoor regular season and now prepares to compete at the Missouri Valley Championships (May 17-18) in Carbondale, Illinois at the Lew Hartzog Track & Field Complex.
Â
The Racers have several student-athletes among the top-5 in the MVC including Diamonasia Taylor, who is first in the High Jump with a leap of 1.80M (5ft, 10 3.4in) at the Indiana State Gibson Invitational on April 17. Having already qualified for a spot in a NCAA regional, Taylor will try to become MSU's second champion in the event since Meghan Fletcher in 2023. Taylor's jump of 1.80M is ranked 25th in NCAA D-I and second all-time at MSU behind Fletcher's effort of 1.84M (6ft, 1/2in) in 2024 at the NCAA East Regional.
Â
Other Racers who go into the MVC meet with top-5 designations include: Taylor (3rd Triple Jump), Ruth Kimutai (3rd, 3000M Steeplechase), Chelby Melvin (3rd, 400M Hurdles), Alexis Meloche (3rd, Javelin), Faith Bostick (4th, 100M), 4X100M Relay team (4th), Darrione Joseph (5th, 100M Hurdles), Jaiden Knoop (5th, Pole Vault), and Andrea Segovia (5th, Heptathlon).
The Racers were predicted for a fourth place spot in the pre-championship poll of the MVC head coaches.
The Saturday schedule at SIU calls for the Heptathlon to get started at 10 a.m. with the 100M Hurdles, High Jump, Shot Put and 200M, while the other field events get underway simultaneously. The track event prelims begin at 3 p.m. with Ruth Kimutai getting her shot at the Steeplechase title at 6:35 p.m.
Â
Sunday's big day, where every event is for a championship, begins with field events at 10:30 a.m., while the final three Heptathlon events (Long Jump, Javelin and 800M) decide the winner beginning at 9 a.m. Running finals also begin at 9 a.m. and conclude with the 4X400M relay at 5:10 p.m.
