Murray State women's basketball defeated Southern Illinois 87-74 to extend program record winning streak to 13 straight
Halli Poock scored 23 points to lead Murray State to an 87-74 victory over Southern Illinois on Thursday night at the Banterra Center, extending the Racers' winning streak to 13 games.
Murray State (15-2, 6-0 MVC) maintained its perfect start to Missouri Valley Conference play as Poock finished 8-of-13 from the floor, including three 3-pointers, while adding five assists. Haven Ford contributed 20 points and six rebounds, and Sharnecce Currie-Jelks recorded a double-double with 19 points and 10 rebounds.
The Racers took control early, ending the first quarter with a 23-14 lead. Although the Salukis (4-12, 1-6 MVC) kept pace in the second quarter, Murray State narrowly out scored SIU in each quarter in the second half. Keslyn Secrist also reached double figures for the Racers, finishing with 15 points and four rebounds.
It is the second straight game with four Racers scoring at least 15 points.
The Racers return home to face Belmont on Sunday in a battle of the last two undefeated teams in MVC Play.Â
