The Racers posted their fifth road win in The Valley with a 2-point victory over the Sycamores
The Murray State Racers scored their fifth road win in Missouri Valley Conference play Thursday night with a 74-72 victory over the Indiana State Sycamores at the Hulman Center in Terre Haute.
Â
The Racers (19-8) improved to 10-6 in The Valley as they scored their first win at ISU's home floor since joining the MVC in 2022.
Â
MSU comes home Sunday to host the Belmont Bruins in a 5 p.m. game at the CFSB Center, while the MSU women's team makes it a doubleheader day at The Bank when they host the UIC Flames at 1 p.m.
Â
Putting a pair of players in 20-point scoring in the same game this season, the Racers were led by Javon Jackson and Roman Doman with 23 and 20 points as the senior-freshman duo combined for 42 points, eight assists and 10 rebounds. Fred King added 13 points to the MSU attack and tied his season-high with five blocked shots against the Sycamores.
Â
Murray State shot 56 percent from the field in the first period, building a lead as large as 22 points (43-21) just before the break. Part of MSU's big opening stanza was that they forced the Sycamores into 10 turnovers for a 43-21 lead at the intermission.
Â
The old saying that 'it was a tale of two halves' never had a better application when the second half began.
Â
The second half saw a complete reversal of momentum as Indiana State fought back, outscoring the Racers 51-31 in the final period.
Â
Indiana State found their rhythm and hit 57 percent from the floor including 7-of-14 from three-point range in the second half to erase nearly the entire deficit as they whittled the MSU lead to two points with :05 left. MSU hit 6-of-8 from the free throw line to seal it.
