PEORIA, Ill. – Murray State dominated Bradley 14-3 on Sunday to close out the series with a sweep, moving to 6-0 in Missouri Valley Conference action. The Racers six straight wins are the best start to conference play since 1991 when MSU won 10 straight conference games to begin the season. The Racers collected 43 runs across the weekend, the program's most in an MVC series since the joining the conference.
Drew Deremer earned the win in the finale, tossing 5.2 scoreless innings while striking out five and allowing just four hits. Deremer's five punchouts represent a new single-game career high.
The Murray State (19-9, 6-0 MVC) offense was constantly threatening, finishing with 18 hits as a team. Conner Cunningham was dominant at the plate, notching four hits, a career high for the sophomore, while driving in two runs and scoring twice. Cunningham finished the weekend batting .500, going 6-for-12 and drawing four walks. His five RBIs on the weekend tied him for the team lead over the three-game stretch alongside Anthony Perritano and Luke Mistone.
Perritano had a career day as well, tallying three hits and driving in five runs. His five RBIs are a single-game career high. Joining Cunningham and Deremer in multi-hit performances were Kainen Jorge, who went 3-for-5, and Mistone, who finished 2-for-6 with two doubles.
The Racers wasted little time taking control, plating four runs in the second inning. Kingsley Guthrie sparked the rally with an RBI double to left field. Perritano followed with a two-run single to right, and Connor Chisolm capped the frame with an RBI single of his own to make it 4-0.
Murray State added two more in the third on a Cunningham two-run single and extended the lead to 9-0 in the fifth behind a Daylan Pena RBI groundout and another two-run single from Perritano.
After Bradley (5-22, 1-5 MVC) broke the shutout with runs in the seventh and eighth, the Racers responded with a five-run explosion in the ninth. The late-inning surge featured pinch-hit singles from Parker Airhart and Jake Slade, followed by a two-run double from Mistone and an RBI single from Jorge to put the game out of reach.
Following Deremer's start, the Racers utilized four arms out of the bullpen: Carter Boyd, Ethan Lyke, Jackson Lux, and Kris Hokenson, to close out the victory.
