Murray State Athletics Celebrates Topping Off Ceremony Inside CFSB Center

Home of Racer Basketball completes key milestone as transformational renovation continues ahead of 2026-27 season
Murray State Athletics celebrated another significant milestone in the ongoing transformation of the CFSB Center with the placement of the final steel beam as part of the facility's renovation.

The topping off ceremony represents an important moment in the continued modernization of the longtime home of Murray State men's and women's basketball and another step towards the new, first-class experience that Racer student-athletes, fans and the greater Murray State community will experience upon completion.

"Today is representative of the tremendous progress being made across Murray State University and our continued commitment to investing in the experiences of our students and community," Murray State University President Dr. Ron Patterson said. "The CFSB Center has brought generations of Racers together, and this transformation will ensure it remains an important gathering place for our campus, alumni, fans and the entire region for decades to come. We are grateful to everyone whose support and hard work continue to move this important project forward."

The placement of the final steel beam also marks another major step in Racer Athletics' broader efforts to transform its facilities and generate new opportunities surrounding its athletics venues, while creating new student-athlete development and performance spaces for current and future Racers.

"We have been intentional about making transformational investments that enhance the student-athlete and fan experience while creating new opportunities for revenue generation, recruiting and long-term growth," Vice President and Director of Athletics Nico Yantko said. "Seeing the final piece of steel go into place is our vision becoming reality, and we are incredibly appreciative of our University leadership, investors, and everyone who has helped make this project possible. This is a defining milestone for this project and we are thrilled to open the venue for the upcoming season."

 A primary focus of the entire project is the enhancement of the overall fan experience. Patrons will see a total overhaul in the seating structure in the lower level of the arena, to include permanent seating that features more comfortable seats with cupholders and a retractable student section that allows the facility to host graduation, concerts, and other external events.

For the first time in Murray State history, Racer fans will have the ability to watch a game from the comfort of new premium seating. New loge boxes throughout the top of the seating bowl will create a world-class game day experience while providing luxurious, private spaces for entertainment. New ledge seating and courtside opportunities will also bring the fans closer to the action.

Murray State will also be building a first-of-its-kind courtside club for patrons to take in the game in a premium setting just steps off the baseline of the court. The club will feature a rustic Kentucky feel and will showcase a high-class bar and food offerings, comfortable seating, and an unforgettable view of the court.
