2006: Season took off after being tapped to replace the injured Seth Hudson at second base on April 14; from that time, Akin hit .306 with 13 runs and 12 RBIs, slugging .458 with an on-base percentage of .354...had a season-high four RBIs with a grand slam at Tennessee Tech on April 29...had a season-high three hits and three runs against Morehead State on April 23, a game in which he had a season-high eight assists...had seven putouts at Austin Peay State on May 14...took part in 14 double plays...advanced runners in 58.7 percent of his opportunities...went 5-for-6 with runners on third and less than two outs.
2005: Saw limited time, playing in 20 games and starting in four...had success advancing runners percentage of .467...went 1-for-1 at Kentucky with a double...best effort of the season was a 2-for-3 game at Samford, scoring a run and driving in one...made a season-high three assists twice.
2004: Played in 36 games, starting in 29...was 2-for-2 in stolen bases...first career home run came against Arkansas State on April 6.
BEFORE MSU: Bolstered Christian County High to a district title last season under coach Kevin Crider...batted .505 and named team Most Valuable Player...helped the Colonels to the 2002 district championship his junior season, batting .400 and named team’s Defensive Player of the Year...batted .403 in his sophomore season (2000)...hit .302 his freshman year (1999) on a 31-5 team that won the region and district titles...named team Rookie of the Year...also lettered in golf four years at CCHS.
PERSONAL: Born James Edwin Akin on June 12, 1984, in Hopkinsville, Ky., the son of Steve and Debbie Akin...has one brother, Doug (28)...a member of the Beta Club, Key Club and National Honor Society...enjoys fishing and hunting...majoring in occupational safety and health.
