Murray State Travels West For 76 Classic - Meets Stanford Thanksgiving Day

The Murray State Racers face the Stanford Cardinal for the first time when the two tangle Thursday, Nov. 25 at the 76 Classic in Anaheim, Calif., marking only the second time in 86 seasons that the Racers will have played on Thanksgiving Day. The Racers (2-1) will be facing a team from the Pac-10 for only the seventh time. MSU opened last season at California and will be looking for their first win over a Pac-10 team since beating Arizona in 1956.
All 12 games of the 76 Classic will be held at the Anaheim Convention Center that seats 7,500. The eight-team event features three teams that played in the NCAA Tournament last season, including the Racers, Oklahoma State and UNLV. Tulsa and Virginia Tech competed in the NIT. Cal-Northridge and Stanford make up the rest of the field. The Big West Conference has held its post-season tournament at the Anaheim Convention Center for the past nine seasons.
ESPNU and ESPN2 will air 11 of the 12 games in the 76 Classic. The Racers will play Stanford in the third of four games on the first day, after Virginia Tech/Northridge and Depaul/Oklahoma State. Tulsa/UNLV will play the late game after MSU's game.
MSU will play Friday at either 8:30 p.m. or 10:30 p.m. central time against the winner or loser of Tulsa/UNLV. After an off day when the team can enjoy going to Disneyland, the Racers come back on Sunday to play their final game of the 76 Classic.

SCOUTING STANFORD: The Cardinal enters the 76 Classic with a 3-0 mark after Sunday's 92-49 win at home over Arkansas-Pine Bluff. Stanford led 35-28 at the half and outscored the Lions 51-27 in the second half. Jeremy Green led the way with 21 points, while Josh Owens scored 12 points and had a game-high nine rebounds.
Stanford started the season (Nov. 15) with a 64-48 win over San Diego and followed with another home win (Nov. 18) against Virginia 81-60.
Through three games, Stanford is outscoring opponents 130-76 in the second half and have outrebounded them 122-80.
This meeting is the first for the Cardinal against the Racers.
RACERS VS PAC-10: When the Racers opened last season at California, it marked their first game against a Pac-10 opponent since 1986. The Stanford game is the seventh for the Racers all-time against a
team from the Pac-10.

The 76 Classic features a strong field with three teams that competed in the NCAA Tournament last spring, including the Racers (Ohio Valley), Oklahoma State (Big-12) and UNLV (Mountain West). Two teams, Tulsa (Conference USA) and Virginia Tech (ACC) appeared in the NIT. Cal-Northridge (Big West), DePaul (Big East) and Stanford (Pac-10) make up the rest of the field.
The Big West Conference again will serve as the host for the 76 Classic at the 7,500-seat Anaheim Convention Center, which has served the conference for the past nine years as the site of its postseason tournament.
HOLIDAY HOOPS: The Racers are playing on Thanksgiving Day for only the second time in their 86-year history. The first was at Siena under Coach Harlan Hodges in 1953. MSU has played only once on Christmas Day, but has played on New Year's Day six times including one at home in 2002.
