“We have had three tough days and dropped today's match,” said head coach Mel Purcell. “But we are now just looking forward to playing in the OVC tournament next week.”
Before the weather forced the teams to postpone the match on March 26, the teams had each earned a point. The Racers (5-14, 2-5 OVC) had earned the doubles point. Senior Jorge Caetano and freshman Arthur Valle earned an 8-4 win at No. 1 doubles to start the match and Morehead State evened the doubles matches at one, with an 8-5 win at No. 3 doubles. Seniors Luka Milicevic and Renaldo Domoney then gave the Racers the point with an 8-6 win at No. 2 doubles.
Morehead State then earned a point with a win at No. 4 singles before the rain forced the teams to stop play. When they started again April 10, the Eagles went up 2-1 with a win at No. 3 doubles. Caetano then evened the score with a 7-6 (4), 6-1 win at No. 1 singles. Morehead State again earned the next point and MSU evened the score again with a 6-4, 1-6, 7-6 (5) win at No. 2 singles from freshman Joao Camara. Morehead State claimed the final point at No. 6 singles to earn the win.
The Racers season is not over however, as they will be playing in the 2011 Ohio Valley Conference Championship, April 15-17 in Paducah, Ky., at the Larry Heflin Tennis Center. MSU will find out their opponent when the conference announced the seedings.
