The second set was all Racers, as the team jumped ahead 8-2, with a 5-0 run. The Golden Eagles kept the core within striking distance until Sauer stepped back to the service line. Sauer started a 9-0 run to take a 20-7 advantage and despite two short run MSU kept control of the tempo and earned the 25-15 win heading into the intermission.
The final set was all MSU. The Racers pushed ahead early with small runs, but a 7-0 run with junior Molly Goodrich serving sealed the set and match win. MSU kept pushing and earned the 25-10 win.
The Racers had clear advantages in almost all statistical categories, especially in hitting percentage. MSU hit .243 (46k-18e-115ta) to the Golden Eagles .020 (20k-18e-100ta).
The Racers will be in action again Saturday, Sep. 24 at 2 p.m. when they host Jacksonville State in Racer Arena.
Notes: Sophomore Casey Bucher added a career-best .417 (5k-0e-12ta) hitting percentage…head coach David Schwepker now needs two more win in conference play to record his 125th OVC victory while at the helm of MSU…he also needs four more overall wins for his 200th career win.
