Racers Face Off With Buffaloes In Charleston Classic Championship

The Murray State Racers meet the Buffaloes of Colorado Sunday in the championship game of the 2012 Charleston Classic. The 7:30 p.m. CT tip at TD Arena in Charleston, S.C. will air on ESPN2.
The Racers have won two games in the event so far. They had an easy time in a 79-59 win over Auburn Tigers in Thursday's quarterfinal round. Friday, the Racers trailed by as many as 13 points in the first half, but clawed their way back to take a 72-67 win from St. John'sin the semifinals.
In the two wins, the Racers are shooting 46 precent (54-of-116) from the field including 39 percent (21-of-53) from three-point range. MSU is 81 percent (22-of-27) from the free throw line. MSU trails on the boards to their opponents 81-63,but have forced 34 turnovers and given the ball up only 26 times.
Isaiah Canaan enters the Colorado game with 1,426 points and is 24 points from passing Don Mann (1985-89) for 16th place on the MSU all-time scoring list. Canaan's 218 made three-point shots is 34 from surpassing Frank Allen (1989-93) for first place on the MSU all-time list. Ed Daniel is in ninth place on the all-time blocked shots list just behind eighth place Pearson Griffith (2004-06).
After winning the Great Alaska Shootout a year ago, the Racers are on a 5-0 win streak in early-season tournaments in the last two seasons. Those wins have come against Alaska-Anchorage, San Francisco, Southern Miss., Auburn and St. John.s
The Racers are meeting Colorado for the second time. MSU lost 98-71 at Boulder, Colo., in 2000.
