The Murray State Racers return to Murray, Ky., for their first home game in 17 days when they host the Old Dominion Monarchs in a 7 p.m. tip Saturday at the CFSB Center.
The Racers are home after a second place finish in the Charleston Classic where they scored wins over Auburn and St. John's before falling in the championship game to Colorado last Sunday 81-74. Isaiah Canaan was named to the Charleston Classic All-Tournament team after averaging 20.7 points in MSU's three games. Ed Daniel had back-to-back double-doubles against St. John's and the Buffaloes.
MSU All-America candidate Isaiah Canaan enters the ODU game with 1,447 points and is two points from passing Don Mann (1985-89) for 16th place on the MSU all-time scoring list. Canaan's 221 made three-point shots is 30 from surpassing Frank Allen (1989-93) for first place on the MSU all-time list.
Ed Daniel is tied with Pearson Griffith (2004-06) for eighth place on the all-time blocked shots list with 113. Big Ed's back-to-back double-doubles makes him the first Racer to do that since Bruce Carter in 2008. Ivan Aska was the last Racer to have consecutive double-digit rebound games in 2010. James Singleton had the last best streak of double-doubles for MSU with five straight in 2003.
Murray State plays host to ODU for the first time in Saturday's game. The teams have met only once before when MSU beat the Monarchs 76-61 in 1980 in Puerto Rico under head coach Ron Greene.
Old Dominion enters the game 1-4 after a 76-71 loss Wednesday at home to Virginia Military in Norfolk, Va. ODU's win was against Morgan State at home 72-61 (Nov. 10).
ODU comes from the Colonial Athletic Association where they were picked fourth in the preseason poll after finishing fourth in the 2011-12 season. ODU was 22-14 last season and have averaged 24 wins per season over the last nine and have appeared in post-season play the last eight seasons. ODU made it to the quarterfinals of the CIT Tournament last spring.
ODU announced last July that they will become a member of Conference USA in 2013.
