The Murray State Racers play their first road game of the 2012-13 season Monday when they play the Lipscomb Bisons at Allen Arena in Nashville, Tenn.
The Racers won the first meeting between the two last season at home 89-65.
MSU is coming off a 79-72 home win on Saturday over Old Dominion that saw MSU All-America selection Isaiah Canaan notch his fifth career 30-point game with 30 points on 10-of-18 shooting to raise his season scoring average to 20.6. Canaan is 15th place on the MSU all-time scoring list and is closing in on the school's all-time made three-point shots list. Canaan enters the game needing 25 to pass Frank Allen (1989-93).
While Canaan has been a focus this season of opponents, Ed Daniel is also giving them fits as he enters the Monday tilt with three straight double-doubles. His 15 rebounds against ODU was a career-high surpassing the 14 he grabbed last March against Marquette in the NCAA Tournament. Daniel is currently eighth on the MSU blocked shots list at 115.
When it comes to knowing what it takes to win on the road in college basketball, few teams have performed like the Racers have. MSU carries a school-record 13-game road winning streak into the game at Allen Arena. MSU was the only team in the nation to avoid a road loss last season at 13-0, the first in 87 years of Racer Basketball. MSU hasn't lost on the road since March 15, 2011 at Missouri State in the NIT.
One of the key stats to MSU's 4-1 start is their ability to defend the three-point shot. MSU was ninth in the country and first in the Ohio Valley Conference last season in holding opponents to 29 percent from long range. This season, MSU's opponents are shooting 25 percent (20-of-80). MSU has also forced opponents into 87 turnovers in five games and picked off 40 steals.
Lipscomb enters the game 2-2 after a 91-45 loss last Friday at Mississippi. The Bisons are 1-1 this season at Allen Arena after losing to Belmont 89-60 (Nov. 9) and beating Maryville 73-55 (Nov. 12). LU is a member of the Atlantic Sun Conference. The Bisons are led in scoring by Malcolm Smith at 11.7 points per game, while Khion Sankey is the leading rebounder with 8.8 boards per game.
