BOX SCORE
Jacksonville State jumped out to the early lead and never looked back on their way to a 7-2 victory over Murray State Sunday afternoon at Rudy Abbott Field.
The Gamecocks (16-22, 10-5 OVC) got on the scoreboard in the second with four-straight hits to start the inning, including Erik Underwood's RBI single to left. A wild pitch allowed the second run to score before Kyle Stone delivered a sacrifice fly to center field.
JSU added a run in the third as a leadoff single and walk put two on. After a fielder's choice put runners on the corners, Kyle Bluestein delivered a sacrifice fly to right field on the first pitch he saw.
Coty Blanchard added another run for the Gamecocks in the fourth as he delivered a two-out RBI single up the middle.
The Breds (19-22, 5-10 OVC) got one run back in the fifth on Colton Speed's solo home run to right field.
JSU extended the lead in the seventh on a Ben Waldrip two-run home run to right field.
MSU scored their second run in eighth as a pair of walks put two on with two outs for Brandon Elliott to deliver and RBI single up the middle.
Bryan Babin (3-3) took the loss after allowing four runs on five hits in just three innings. Tanner Freshour (3-0) earned the victory in relief after allowing one run on one hit and two strikeouts over three innings.
The Breds return to the diamond Wednesday evening as they travel to face Evansville. First pitch is set for 6 p.m.
