MSU Defeats TSU - Honors Senior Jose Berardo

The Murray State men's tennis team honored senior Jose Berardo and broke a five-match losing streak with a 7-0 win Saturday over Tennessee State at the Bennie Purcell Courts in Murray, Ky.
The Racers improved to 4-10 overall and 2-3 in the Ohio Valley Conference.
Seniors Jose Berardo (Sao Paulo, Brazil) was honored before the match by MSU Head Coach Mel Purcell and teammates for the contributions Berardo made to the MSU Tennis program.
With one doubles match in MSU's favor by default, the MSU pairs of Arthur Valley/Daniel Heibel and Berardo/Tyler Jeffers won their matches by scores of 8-3 and 8-0.
MSU made a clean sweep of the five singles matches that were played.
Valle defeated TSU's Lawrence Washington 4-6, 6-4 and 12-10 in the super tie-breaker, while Berardo won his match over Shaun Ingram 6-0, 6-0. Heibel notched a 6-0, 6-1 win over William Simmons. The final two matches were also 6-0, 6-0 wins as MSU's Jeffers defeated Jared Asher and Aleks Mitric defeated James Shelton.
The Racers have three league matches and have hopes of gaining a spot in the OVC Tournament (April 20) in Nashville, Tenn. MSU hosts EIU Tuesday before finishing on the road at Eastern Kentucky (April 13) and Morehead State (April 14).
