Racers Drop Contest At Saint Mary's

The Murray State Racers dropped an 89-64 loss to the Saint Mary's Gaels in Moraga, Calif. The game was part of SMC's Shamrock Office Solutions Classic at McKeon Pavilion.
Cameron Payne scored seven of the first nine points for the Racers who trailed 15-9 when he hit a 3-pointer at the 15:13 mark of the first half.
When Jarvis Williams scored at the 7:31 mark after a steal, the Racers trailed 35-21, but the Gaels answered with a 12-0 run to lead 47-21 with 2:03 left.
SMC led 49-27 at the half.
Jonathan Fairell scored a couple baskets at the start of the second half, but MSU trailed 54-31 with 18:29 left and could not get a run going.
Williams led the Racers (2-5) with 16 points and nine rebounds with Jeffery Moss tossing in 14 points on 5-of-10 shooting. Payne added 13 and Fairell finished with 10 points, all in the second half.
The Racers shot 48 percent for the game on 22-of-46, while SMC was 53 percent on 30-of-56.
MSU played the Gaels nearly even on the boards trailing 29-28.
The game was the third trip to SMC for the Racers after playing here in 2004 and 2006.
Murray State's next game is at home Wednesday (Dec. 4) against the Evansville Purple Aces which begins a three-game home stand.

The Racers will be glad to get back home to the CFSB Center after playing on the road for four-straight weekends at Valparaiso, Old Dominion, Auburn and tonight at Saint Mary's. MSU begins a three-game home stand Wednesday (Dec. 4) when they host Evansville. The Racers will play their first Saturday home game (Dec. 7) when they face Lipscomb. After a week off for final exams, MSU hosts Southern Illinois on Dec. 17.
MSU played on the road for four straight weekends with games in the states of Indiana, Virginia, Alabama and California.
