The Murray State Racers make a visit to Lantz Arena Saturday for a 6 p.m. tip against the Eastern Illinois Panthers in Charleston, Ill. The Racers (18-6, 9-3) look to wrap up the top spot in the Ohio Valley Conference west division with a win against EIU (7-19, 4-9). The Racer TV Network will air the game in the Purchase Area of west Kentucky on the cable systems of Time Warner, Mediacom, Murray Electric and Comcast. The game will also be streamed online by ESPN3 and the OVC Digital Network. Racer Radio has the game over the air on WFGE 103.7 FM with Froggy103.com and GoRacers.com will providing online audio.
The Racers are coming off an upset 65-60 loss Thursday at SIUE in what was the Cougars first win over MSU since their first meeting in 1975 and their first over MSU as a member of the OVC. MSU trailed by eight points with under six minutes remaining and got the deficit down to three, but never worked into a spot wher they had the ball with a chance to tie. Isaiah Canaan and Stacy Wilson led the way for MSU with 20 points each while Dexter Fields had a career-high nine rebounds.
MSU leads the west division of the OVC at 9-3 and can still wrap up the division title and one of the top two seed spots for the upcoming OVC Tournament with a win at EIU.
MSU enters the game closing on the program's 1,500th all-time win. MSU is 1,496-830 (.642) in their 88th season of college basketball. MSU reached its 600th OVC win their OVC opener at UT Martin (Jan. 3) and are 608-314 (.658).
Head Coach Steve Prohm, already the fastest to 40 wins at MSU, will be the fastest to 50 the next time the Racers are victorious.
MSU All-America Isaiah Canaan enters the EIU game looking to become the sixth member of the MSU 2000-Point Club and the 17th in the history of the OVC. He is the top scorer in the OVC and was ninth in the nation as the week started and has 1,877 points. His school-record streak with a made three-point basket is at 34.
All-OVC pick Ed Daniel needs 10 blocks to become the all-time shot blocker at MSU as he enters the game with 150, just behind Cuthbert Victor who had 160 from 2000-04. Daniel is 14th all-time at MSU in rebounding with 661 and has 852 career points.
